The Finish Line...
Fall is here and Christmas is around the corner and I am fortunate to continue to do the things I love. In addition to teaching at USC and globe-trotting in my other life working for Spartan Race I have kept busy with projects closer to home.
I am currently in rehearsal for Oliver Mayer's adaptation of Lorca's Yerma. Set in an elite university against a dry landscape Yerma in the Desert focuses on the custodial and public safety staff who clean up the mess and tell no tales in a Trumpian dystopia where personal grudges lead to deportation and worse. Even in this dry place, Yerma craves the wet closeness of love. I have been co-directing with the magnificent Marlene Forte for Urban Theatre Movement and we look forward to sharing this story with you.
Recently, I choreographed a cool air lightsaber fight for IAMA Theatre's production of Sinner's Laundry. The sound effects created by the sound designer are excellent and the two actresses kick some Jedi butt!
Sacred Fools production of Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play continues to do well at the box office and with the critics. Anne Washburn's story of how society rebuilds itself following an apocalyptic failure of the power grid through our primal need for storytelling is humorously dark. I created a fun sword fight for the grand finale showdown between the titular character and Bart Simpson.
